If they’re relly seeking asylum, they can go to any US embassy in their home country or in Mexico.

That's simply not true. You can only apply for asylum in country or at points of entry.

While you’re technically correct, a person living outside the US can apply for refugee status, which is similar in nature to asylum. https://www.uscis.gov/humanitarian/refugees-asylum …

It's a misdemeanor. And as pointed out, you can apply for asylum at the border. Unless the US, as it repeatedly has happened, doesn't follow the rules and refuses to process people.

It’s only a misdemeanor the first time. Subsequent unlawful entry is a felony. The REAL question is, why are so concerned about foreigners when we’re not adequately taking care of our own citizens who need assistance?

Because immigration and taking care of citizens (of which I am not one, I'm an LPR), aren't contradictions. Nor is behaving in a humanitarian way, especially when many of the fleeing people worldwide have been severely influenced by US policy.

So, you’d like a return to the days of the Soviet Union? They “took care” of all their “member countries” citizens...
