Uh not much but young children are suggestable and don't think much of it.
Frankly I think might be as much as a tradition as bowing in some other places to punctuate the beginning of class with a bunch of squirming children, and phases out pretty soon.
We were given a choice... in high school once a bunch of kids who weren't citizen complained.
I...don't think my recitations went nearly that far along. Mid or late elementary school at most.
Kids can't legally be forced to recite the pledge by school officials (West Virginia State Board of Education v. Barnette), I don't think officials are required to tell students about that, and peer pressure is a hell of a thing.
