What pisses me off most about the immigration argument is we know how to solve it: $100k fine for every undocumented worker you employ. Why don't we do that? Because we don't want to pay $12/pint of strawberries or $5/head for lettuce. So we treat the symptom and not the illness.

Their argument as stated (and documented) is that they are trying to curb illegal immigration. There is only one surefire way to curb illegal immigration. This is not it.

I don't think that's all of it. They want to curb both legal and illegal immigration. And asylum claims (both inside the country and at ports of entry) are legal. The anti DACA measures and roaming ICE arrests are part of the anti-illegal/undocumented measures.

Californian fruit farmers are actually experiencing severe problems now, because, due to the zero-tolerance policy, they lack the seasonal hands they rely on to pick their fruits. (I conclude it seems you seeing something is not a necessity for it to be real.)
