http://ec.europa.eu/taxation_customs/vies/ … where you can add VAT number and you get full name and address for anyone VAT registered.
@osxreverser I disagree, for VAT checking reasons individual or company is the same thing and it is important for others to check validity

@AndreaBarisani well, address is a useless check. all info available to public, without any protection? that's just stupid. -
@osxreverser@AndreaBarisani it's not the EU's fault. it's portugal's fault for exposing that. try a german VAT ID for a counterexample ;) -
@esizkur@osxreverser I think Germany is the exception and not the rule -
@AndreaBarisani@osxreverser possible, I haven't tried all member states. merely pointing out that it's not a problem at the EU level.

@AndreaBarisani giving address to companies is part of the process. making it wide open to anyone to mass gather is different. -
@osxreverser the VAT number is not exactly public information, anybody that has the VAT number has the right of knowing its address -
@AndreaBarisani that's not the point. the point is how easy it is to bruteforce that page and harvest all info. that's stupid. -
@osxreverser haven't checked if they throttle it but I always assume that public info is public, no matter if it's easy or not to harvest -
@AndreaBarisani but it shouldn't be public, at least for private VAT registered individuals. I'm not a public company or entity ;-) -
@osxreverser I disagree :) and if you have a private VAT you can always register your workplace if separate from home -
@AndreaBarisani ehheeh we agree to disagree :P -
@osxreverser isn't that lovely, that's what twitter hearts are for ;) - 2 more replies
