@AndreaBarisani What capacity and what image size are you writing? Leaving little or no free space may lower the cards' lifetime and speed.

@solardiz we write a 2GB image, much smaller than the full size (smallest card is 4GB but most common is 32GB) -
@AndreaBarisani Sounds fine, then. Yet a program smarter than dd might be preferable. Might also be faster: read instead of writing 0's. -
@solardiz indeed, I wonder if there is anything ready yet and reasonably fast. Time is important in this process ;) -
@AndreaBarisani "quick-copy for NTFS, FAT, and ext2/ext3; whole-disk copy for other file systems" - some are doing that; we need a free tool -
@solardiz we use ext4 by the way and yes a free tool would be nice -
@AndreaBarisani Sounds like an opportunity for you to write, debug, and release one. And it doesn't need to be fs type specific. -
@solardiz possibly, but only after our todo list which currently includes finishing up secure boot and file encryption apps/helpers ;)

@AndreaBarisani Is a copy of the OS image available online? I'm about to start experimenting with@michaelossmann's USB armory. -
@dominicgs@michaelossmann http://dev.inversepath.com/usbarmory (also linked in project wiki) -
@AndreaBarisani@michaelossmann Thank you, I'm not sure how I missed that. I'll let you know what I get up to with it. -
@dominicgs@michaelossmann looking forward to your feedback!

@AndreaBarisani This is usually discussed for SSDs, but should apply to any flash memory with a controller http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Write_amplification#Free_user_space …Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

@AndreaBarisani Actually, I am curious what best practice here is. Having the duplication software read and skip writing all-zero blocks? Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo
