That the etymology of science comes from a root word meaning "knowledge" is especially infuriating to me because the most fundamental fields of science are less about knowledge and more about modelling.

I don't like to use "modern" in this sense because when you or I say "modern" we are undoubtedly referring to an era that goes back a few hundred years longer than what most people would refer to as modern.

Ah okay, depends on who you're speaking to, most people when I use it understand that "modern science" designates post 1500 AD

might just be a national culture thing I suppose, in Australia pretty sure if I say "modern" most people will assume I mean "after cars replaced horses"
