It is not simply a matter of where Jesus was born. Its the fact that Christianity is very clearly a continuation of Hebrew religions. The concepts of sin, faith, afterlife, dogma, and Papal Supremacy are completely alien to European cultures. https://twitter.com/PakkadKaoSodsod/status/1057285495518941185 …

You are only thinking on an individual level. They can't force thoughts into individuals, but they did their best to subvert and control entire communities over centuries. Even still Pagan traditions continued in most parts of Europe into colonial times.
-
Surely, but one must ask why this was possible
-
For political gains of certain individuals. It was much more politically motivated, with the vast majority being ignorant of even basic theology. Not unlike today honestly.
-
Ah yes, but if mere politics can overrule religion, then something has gone terribly wrong
-
Not really, same occurred with Communism. Overriding the established religion in some of the most religious countries of Europe. Entirely politically motivated. It didn't even bring more benefits, just more reductionism.
-
Haha and I would say something had gone terribly wrong before the communist regime could come to power
-
Typically they'd just use single-issues to bring in sweeping changes across the board. Communists in Russia used the war, they just didn't want any more wars. Bolsheviks came to power, ended the war, and completely changed their way of life.
