One reason Im hesitant on perennialism is because of things like Allegory of The Cave We see shadows and are only able to tell them apart by their shapes In reality the shadows arent all the same. They are vastly more complex than we could imagine

Is the deeper element of the shadows the fire. Or the living beings behind it being cast to us?
-
Fire is the unity from which comes forth the multiplicity of forms
-
I suppose you could see it that way, find commonalities such as this behind the shadow. However if one is searching for a deeper meaning to the figures in the sky, surely understanding the persons behind the multiplicity is more pragmatic, no?
-
The question of what is pragmatic does not bother me so much, rather it seems to me that the question of what is true is of much greater importance
-
Well you can find truth among shadows by looking at only their similarities
