let's not throw manifestation/face into the basket with Person, as Person is a technical metaphysical term in this context - a Person is who you are, and Being/Essence is what you are. and you can be fundamentally one in Essence while being three in Persons.

the Person is Father/Son/Holy Spirit, but the Being is God, and God by nature is singular in Being.

who/what you are are descriptions of roles or attributes, not of essense. this is why divine simplicity goes with negative theology. in any case, it's clear were not talking about simple divisions of attributes here because we have them acting toward each other, one on another

Who is a description of role and attribute, not what. What you are is human. Who you are is Ashkenazbol. And Essence is different from attribute/accident, as we know from Aristotle. So the Son has the attribute of being begotten, but that does not alter His Essence, which is God.

then you get into polytheism since you get 3 members of a set, like 3 people in a set "family" the fact that you can attribute an attribute to one person of what you call god but not the others contradicts the principle of divine simplicity

depends on your definition, but you're correct in that it's not uncommon to think of the Holy Trinity as a family. Augustine, for instance, said that the Spirit is personified Love between the Father and the Son. What makes it not polytheism is that God, by definition, is one.

this is what I mean though. one train of logic leads to a conclusion that the Trinity is not pure monotheism, while the other side starts from an assumption of pure monotheism and they contradict when they meet. Much more honest imo to just be like orthos & say it's a mystery

Are you saying “pure monotheism” necessitates conflating person & essence?
