it all comes down to "it's a mystery bro don't bother trying to understand it" so they can get away with saying the Trinity is simple monotheism because they hold two contradicting ideas simultaneously

it contradicts the idea of simple/pure monotheism. claiming a singularity of essense with multiple manifestations/faces/persons works, but as far as I understand it that's modalism and not the normative Christian view

let's not throw manifestation/face into the basket with Person, as Person is a technical metaphysical term in this context - a Person is who you are, and Being/Essence is what you are. and you can be fundamentally one in Essence while being three in Persons.
