Was he really distracted by the fly in the colliding trains problem and fooled into summing an infinite series?

You know, I didn't even include that story in my book. I couldn't work out whether he was joking about summing the infinite series or not. I read that the actual problem he was given had more difficult numbers. I asked my then 8-year old and he did in minutes-the easy way

Eniac wasn’t the first, Colossus was. But it was kept secret, so…

Yup. That’s true. Colossus was also not a modern stored program computer. Von Neumann and Klara Dan transformed the Eniac into one in 1948 and ran programs on it before the Manchester Baby got going.
