You know what @Ocasio2018 means to me? Less an ideology than a glimpse of what it looks like when ordinary people, not plutocrats, lead the charge to "change the world."
When the rich run change, they defang it. We must change whom we task to make change. https://www.penguinrandomhouse.com/books/539747/winners-take-all-by-anand-giridharadas/9780451493248/ …

if we paid them minimum wage then minimum wage would become a livable wage
-
No, they'd just "somehow" have millions in the bank despite a puny paycheck. Politicians have all sorts of ways to get money through back channels ("legally" or illegally), so it's better to just pay them well enough they don't have to get started down that road to begin with.
-
Better to just publicly finance elections and provide a strong safety net so people who aren't independently wealthy can more easily run for office. I'd rather have a congress full of ex-nurses/factory workers/teachers making 250k than millionaires making 40k.

If their salaries were based on the medium income of the people in their district/state, in addition to not being allowed to take corporate money, theyd be forced to make policies that help the poor and middle class, instead of just doing what benefits them personally.
-
That would just punish people who dont already have vast personal wealth. Need to go after the ways that they profit off of their position and provide them with a salary reflecting their duties and to allow them to live and work in DC
-
Yes, low pay for Congresspeople is a formula for more plutocracy, corruption by other means.
-
Change supreme court rules and stop treating corporations as individuals. Corruption is already in.
-
We should actually be paying people in Congress way more money. So that they don't have to hobnob with other rich people and get their family members lobbying jobs to match up with them. We should be paying members of Congress big money to represent us, so other ppl don't.
-
You can pay anybody all the money in the world and they will always want more. Human nature. Sorry but its not the solution.
-
Pay them a livable salary so they dont need personal wealth or go looking for other revenue and in conjunction really crack down on seedy deals and close any loopholes that allow them to benefit financially from the position
-
So you do not find that 174,000 as base salary is a livable salary? Salary should be in par with citizens they represent and or duties and education.

Interesting that Fox News and the right in particular decry Democrats and liberals in general as being "coastal elites" and are now mocking one for being working class.
-
They love being hypocrites when it serves their narrative
-
Don't say they. Both sides love being hypocrites when it serves their narrative. To deny this would require a greater level of denial than a climate change denier.
-
climatologists tout climate change ideology to perpetuate research funding. There is no scientific evidence supporting more than a very small human impact on climate. Money rules with so-called climate scientists, part of the increasingly corrupt “science” community.

Let us not forget that many gop millionaires slept in their offices for years!! To include Paul Ryan.
-
If that’s true
@SpeakerRyan is even more contemptible for not helping low income and poor -
Especially since his family needed Soc. Sec. Survivors’ Benefits after his dad’s early death.
