Tonight, faced with a choice between the politics of white resentment and the politics of pluralism, a majority of Americans chose pluralism. But the Senate stands, and will continue to stand, as an anti-democratic bastion of the old America that fears the new one.

Absent near-impossible constitutional reform, a shrinking minority of Americans from smaller, more rural states will have, through the Senate, a veto over the future.

Tonight’s results are a preview of what is to come: a resounding victory for a rising nation of new faces, new voices, new power. And gains in the Senate for the minority that voted against change.

Such an important point. Senate score is absolutely important to understand how power is allocated but not how “the American people” feel. We’ll soon live in country where 30 percent of people will decide 70 percent of Senate seats (and over-represent white/“rural” interests)

I wonder whether an interesting application for philanthropy is creating conditions for younger, more diverse Americans to spread out across more of the country. That would be giving that changes the system fundamentally over time.

Philanthropists could shift demographics and help ailing cities if they funded relocating some governmental agencies to the Midwest.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=imcDUnEs--Y&app=desktop …

Or Amazon could choose a city in the Midwest for HQ2.https://www.nytimes.com/2018/11/07/upshot/in-superstar-cities-the-rich-get-richer-and-they-get-amazon.html#click=https://t.co/a2NH5lu6Nk …
