Tonight, faced with a choice between the politics of white resentment and the politics of pluralism, a majority of Americans chose pluralism. But the Senate stands, and will continue to stand, as an anti-democratic bastion of the old America that fears the new one.

Absent near-impossible constitutional reform, a shrinking minority of Americans from smaller, more rural states will have, through the Senate, a veto over the future.

Tonight’s results are a preview of what is to come: a resounding victory for a rising nation of new faces, new voices, new power. And gains in the Senate for the minority that voted against change.

It’s going to take creativity, outside the usual conversation, to address this. Perhaps we need a wave of patriots representing the rising new America to move to other states, diffusing the influence of the ascendant country. Perhaps the left needs to look again at federalism.

Wtf do we do? Even if you win WH in 2020, there’s nothing you can do. They could maybe get 3-5 Senate seats in 2020 tops.

Change doesn't happen at the federal or Senate level. They are WAY lagging indicators and we can/should expect nothing. Voters in states carried by trump and very deep red passed referendum increasing their state minimum wage. New Deal arose from innov in NYC, NY, WI, etc.

Yeah and you need state legislatures to amend and they have the same partisan geographical split as senate.
