Today @dealbook is hosting a conference whose premise is that corporate America should “try to tackle tomorrow’s challenges.” I’m intrigued by the idea that the very kinds of people who caused today’s challenges should be lifted up as leaders of that tackling. #DealBookpic.twitter.com/g5USLKZV6a

Among the speakers is Larry Fink, CEO of @blackrock. Sure, he’s been vocal about companies having a social purpose. He was also buying up 4 million shares of ExxonMobil as he was talking about that and preparing to lecture the UN on sustainability. Another speaker is Lachlan Murdoch. Sure, his family has “transformed” the media world. But the major way it has done that is, via @FoxNews, building a public-private propaganda partnership with the Trump administration, stoking hatred of the Other, and spreading falsehoods.pic.twitter.com/421DsEiGzE

You have @sundarpichai, who seems like a nice man and also runs a de facto monopoly that is asphyxiating the media that holds the powerful to account through the abuse of its market power in online ads. And a company that continues to be blind to issues of power and exclusion.pic.twitter.com/pOrSOFYbEz

Ooh, @lloydblankfein is speaking! @GoldmanSachs, which he ran, helped cause the 2008 crisis, selling others securities it knew to avoid for itself, paying a $5 billion fine. Millions lost their homes and jobs. We don’t need him to tackle challenges. We need him to face justice.pic.twitter.com/sKJ8gkxf2z

Oh, cool, @peterthiel‘s in the house! He was an influential supporter of the most dangerous president in U.S. history. So the idea that we want to pick his brain on solving tomorrow’s challenges makes me giggle. We need to figure out how to keep him away from shaping tomorrow.pic.twitter.com/Dvai2ZCHMX

I trust @andrewrsorkin and others will be asking tough questions today. Yet I wonder about a culture that persistently redeploys arsonists as firefighters. We keep tasking those who caused our biggest problems to be leaders of the quest for solutions.

As a retired taxpayer, scrimping by on SS and pension, this dirty bastard Blankenfein is lauded and looked up to as a genius. Millions suffered because of him and he fucking lost nothing. This is what’s destroying 🇺🇸 and no one cares. They’re deplorable.

Some homeowners used their homes as ATM's and falsified their own documents - there is blame on both sides. All who lied/falsified should have faced penalties of perjury & whatever else the laws allowed for.
