George Washington wore dentures made from ivory and from nine teeth pulled from the mouths of his slaves, which is as good a metaphor for the American founding as you will find. From THESE TRUTHS, by Jill Lepore.

History as it was—painful and backbreaking Like in German Grad School—history of Hitler is minimized—not all told In the USA same with slavery No wonder history comes back—goes around in circles—no true closure from the oppressor—time passes—then it starts all over again...

Great book-Sorry indeed but to dwell is to not move forward. I as a POC choose to move forward and my white friends need NOT to apologize for something their ancestors did even though they are. My brown ancestors did damage in their history as did yours I’m sure

We can certainly apologize for that. That’s fucking awful. We can apologize & then LEARN. We can’t keep these very flawed men up on their pedestals. It’s time to see them as what they really were then use that knowledge to create something so much greater than they ever imagined

But we already are. They have apologized for years. Maybe not to you but to me and the generations of MY family. Again, as a POC I can’t and WON’T blame the majority of “Whites” that had NOTHING to do with their ancestors and the majority of white’s who BTW support the POC cause

Been to Mt. Vernon several times and ‘surprisingly’ they always leave that part about the slave’s teeth from the story.

Sorry truth. If real history would be taught day 1, we could heal much of the ignorance & divide in a generation. White men coming to terms with what they've done is in order. It would require feeling & transparency though. Tall order for the ill prepared.

It’ll be difficult to think of George Washington without Dr. Mengele coming to mind.
