How does Saudi Arabia get away with being the “ISIS that made it?” Enablers. It long courted DC. Now it’s become one of Silicon Valley’s biggest swinging checkbooks. @Uber, @WagWalking, @SlackHQ, @WeWork: Saudi💰. Which makes the enabler you. #UnfriendSaudi #JamalKhashoggihttps://twitter.com/nytopinion/status/1050706425398349824 …

Saudi Arabia has become one of the largest investors in Silicon Valley tech companies, says @AnandWrites, and that's a problem, thanks to the recent disappearance of a journalist and a long list of human rights abuses https://nyti.ms/2CFT2Mu

I also want to note that, when a Twitter thread can become a @nytimes Op-Ed, it’s a new day at the paper. Shout-out to the great new editor there, @susanthesquark!

Great article Anand and Susan! Yemen by itself should be enough to steer clear. Hopefully public opinion will put some pressure on these companies. (ps. the link at “ISIS that made it is broken)

Saudi Arabia got the $ by selling oil to the us, in dollars, and then using those dollars to buy weapons. It was Saudi support for the dollar as world reserve currency which put them in this position of power. Moving to a currency like bitcoin hits the saudis hard.
