I beg every father of every son — regardless of party or of age — to take your boy aside today and tell him that any harm he ever does to a woman might as well be done to you.

It is much deeper than that. Children take in everything. Does the father who works in a cut-throat profession that exploits people really a credible interlocutor in that conversation? That’s why rape culture is a good term- it includes a multitude of things that enable rape.

I’ve had several meaningful conversations with my sons (16 and 10) over the last few weeks, and not for the first time. Explaining consent & violence & trauma to my overprivileged white sons so they will be compassionate and responsible. I owe the world two quality white men

Acknowledging their privilege and stressing compassion and responsible action is a good foundation. As your sons encounter boy-men wielding power, they will need support and praise to achieve the manhood you aspire for them. It’s not easy out there for decent men, either.

This idea that boys need to be spoken to of the need for human love and kindness but girls are A-ok is awful and bat shit crazy and turns off the vast majority of middle America; boys as criminals is not something we should b selling or buying into.

#BrettKavanuagh was visibly angry while being questioned. This is the anger/aggression that some accusers have mentioned. Now couple that with lots of beer (which he admittedly likes) and what do you get? I don’t think he came across well. My opinion.

And hopefully you also use Judge Kavanaugh’s response as an example if they are ever falsely accused. It is shame that a guy who shows respect to women would be crucified for doing so

Much more effective than "telling" is *leading by example.* Take stock of the way you treat the women and girls in your life, and see if you need to up your game. R-E-S-P-E-C-T is a powerful lesson for us all.
