This NYC subway car is the future of America: people from every corner of the earth co-existing in peace, heads covered and uncovered, skin dark and light, faces joyful and melancholy, minds reading and spacing, everyone on their phones.

I feel some guilt, sort of, when I pick people up as an Uber driver and feel joy that they are all sorts. And I feel warmth when I get a Chinese lesson or hear from an Arab student that she’s in social work. Or a young woman dumping her asshole BF to travel to New Zealand.

Left alone, I believe that's how we humans will act: peace and cooperation. It's our leaders who divide us and pit us against one another to keep us distracted from their crimes.

more the future of coastal cities than the rest of the continent. Managing the chasm between coastal megacities eg Boston-NYC-PHIL-DC vs the rest will be the most difficult challenge posed to the union. In a post-empire world cities will trump all&assert their political weight

At the end of the day, I think most Americans want our representatives that actually represent us in Our democracy to look and be like us. This is, & will always be what is great about America!

Everyone on their phones isn’t a good thing at all, no matter how you try to spin it. That doesn’t bring people together, just the opposite. People are isolated in their own little world. They don’t talk to each other. I notice it all the time on public transit.

I beg to differ...Uber is the future of America. Solitary travel with a driver from every corner of the globe. Someone you don’t need to interact with who gets you from point A to point B. Sounds sad, I know, but I’m a realist.
