Is it "leave it to democracy" or inefficient resource allocators like mostly incompetent and corrupt and politically motivated politicians? Less than perfect for but having Gates, Bezos, Zuck, Elon are better than anyone in politics I can think of. And we get diversity of efforts

The entrepreneurs you praise are brilliant, but not all are as devoted to the common good as the public servants you treat with casual contempt. Our government is broken yes, but we have to make it work, for our roads, schools, buses, elderly, environment & defense.

If a true living wage was paid by all companies, homelessness and poverty would be a lot less, as Anand has said in interviews. Non-ethical business practices cause many social issues in the first place. Unfortunately "Masters of the Universe" own governments

So let me get this right: “Democracy” requires government control of generous philanthropic efforts? Silly me, I always thought democracy’s purpose was to enable individuals to make their own lawful choices.

I still don’t think it has to be an either/or. I love what you’re suggesting & would love to see the rules of commerce shift so folks can’t hoard such obscene fortunes, but starting here & now, I’m supportive of both robust democracy & the shedding of fortunes on philanthropy.

Unfortunately, the current US political system requires the funding of billionaires during elections. This has to end but I can't see it happening soon.

That starts with massive tax increases on the rich. As long as a small group of individuals can bribe, blackmail or buy policy we aren't living in a democracy.
-
You know..it's a Republic, but a democratic one but NONE of that means much unless you get the masses up off their collective asses and out to vote.
-
Yes a Republic, if you can keep it and right know a bunch of billionaires have it under lock and key.
-
SO...the solution is another set of elites in control of wealth and means of production? We know where that goes...the new bosses scramble over the goods and somebody winds up with an icepick in their head.
-
Well, what do you think will happen when you "massively" tax the rich, which btw, you won't but for sake of argument. Who decides what to DO with all that money? You? Or all the folks who didn't elect you? The problem is they STILL didn't vote and you govern by a faction only

Again you make zero sense. BLOCKED
