What if... Jeff Bezos spent his vast fortune pushing for a society where everyone can become as rich as Jeff Bezos is now?

Well, that’s an invigoratingly diminishing goal; as dangerous as it is asymptotic: WHAT YOU REALLY MEAN TO SAY: Bezos should act and advocate for a country in which no one could be as rich in conditions of such uneven distribution or by dint of policies that induce it!

As much as I respect AG's intellect, I don't buy his analysis of "the billionaires". That said, it's a moot point. Ultimately, his solution, I believe, is correct. A new social contract in the US is inevitable. We have not kept pace with change and the implications are critical

Bezos started Amazon as a public market like eBay. Once Amazon tracked which products were making money, Amazon would then offer the same product for less. Philanthropy? Bezos does nothing that doesn’t make him money.

Im always curious if the problem is disparity or the fact that there is no lower bound. I would expect disparity to only matter in a zero sum game which we agree (?) that the world isn't.
-
The world isn’t zero sum. Some play it as such though. Do you think the issue is equal opportunity instead? It’s easy access more cheap $$ when you already have it. Not so much if you don’t

-
I wonder! I definitely think letting folks slips below the poverty line after which recovery is impossible is a problem. Equal opportunity is hard to mandate.

In many cases as his, the accumulation of riches comes at the expense of his own workers’ salary, in a desproportionate and injust relationship between executives and workers, capital & labor.

Who has Bezos made better off on net, himself or all the people who have been made better off by using his services? He has already done a great good in the world. It would be enough to celebrate that. That he does any philanthropic work at all is gravy.

so we should have laws that force founders of wildly successful companies to give away their shares in the companies they start? Bezos' fortune is mainly in AMZN stock that he hasn't sold, selling those shares extracts money from economy.
