Proposition: The person best suited to deliver America from the phony billionaire savior in the White House is probably not an attendee of the Allen & Co. conference in Sun Valley. Don’t @ me, Mike. But nice nametag.https://twitter.com/splinter_news/status/1041746091497189378 …

You guys, we have to start asking what it is not just about these elites but also our culture that makes us crave billionaire sugar daddies and sugar mommies to deliver us from the pretend-billionaire sugar daddy.

This is actually very deep stuff, probably. I would love to hear from psychologists about how an age of inequality fosters this fantasy.

Superman & Batman are our favorite superheros for the same reason we love stories about noble medieval kings and believe in god. Democracy is hard work. Fixing shit as a collective is a pain in the ass. We'd love for some benevolent superpower to do it for us.

Bits of this: http://www.pnas.org/content/early/2017/06/06/1617711114.full … and this: https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/culture-shrink/201702/why-do-people-follow-tyrants … might help. Or just make you sad :-/

A huge part of this has to be how inaccessible running for office is to the poor and not well connected

When u get theories from psychologists please share those thoughts and conclusions. I am eager to know as well so that we can all participate in correcting this.

Pretty sure Narcissistic Personality Disorder holds the keys you're looking for. I enjoyed Eleanor Payson's book, "The Wizards of Oz and Other Narcissists" for a better understanding.

I'm not a psychologist, but I've studied ethics, served in Peace Corps in Senegal, Uganda & Guinea, worked for an INGO & on a whistleblower program. Here's the thing. If you have no power (due to income inequality) you can't change the system. Only someone with power can do that.
