“I want people, the next time you see a problem, to think about what a public, democratic, institutional, universal fix for that problem would be...We need to move from an age of fake change to an age of genuine reform.”

And we can no longer use a dysfunctional Washington as an excuse. There are 89,000 local governments in the United States, and they are places to start. https://www.census.gov/newsroom/releases/archives/governments/cb12-161.html …

One of the embarrassments of our age of inequality is many local governments haven’t flexed their power to protect workers. Last night in Philly, I learned about this laudable bill to solve a real problem: volatile schedules. Let’s stop waiting for D.C.http://www2.philly.com/philly/news/fair-work-week-hours-schedule-fast-food-retail-philadelphia-bill-20180614.html …

I’m going to highlight people seeking real, rather than fake, change as I roam around for

Another idea that surfaced yesterday in
#Philly: If we have, thanks to the@BCorporation, companies certified not to dump huge externalities into the society that the rest of us pay to fix, why don’t we give them a lower corporate tax rate? Make this private initiative systemic?3 replies 10 retweets 48 likesShow this thread -
And they say I have no solutions.pic.twitter.com/a6YCdt4pGk

That said, I think the pressure to give solutions is often a desire for premature absolution. A rigged society is a crime scene, and it is just as important to unravel the whodunit as to move forward.

Very interesting response. But if a rigged society is a crime scene, and "fake change" is an accomplice to that crime, doesn't that put a greater onus on determining what reals change looks like?

Absolutely! And getting there starts by investigating what happened, who did it, and what to do about them.

A complication is that in ur crime-scene analogy, determining the perp & proper verdict/punishment is part of the solution that ur asking elite to embrace: ie, an element of sacrifice of their own status/privilege, etc. But I do like the point abt demand for remedy as absolution.
