So disagree with this. There are many examples in conservation, health, poverty, malaria, etc where many nonprofits funded via philanthropists have made huge differences in our lives.

That's the virtue part. You are right. And Megan is right that that virtuous deed can also be the twin of injustice. If that good deed serves to uphold a system that will keep causing the problems the givers seek to fix.
