Every time I tweet about a covid death, someone "helpfully" informs me that the person had underlying health conditions. Oh, you mean like me? Like my parents? Like almost everyone I know?

I'm immunocompromised. My mother has asthma. I and my husband are fat. These are "underlying health conditions" that will no doubt be penned onto our eventual death certificates. That doesn't mean it doesn't matter whether we die from covid now or live another 50 years.

I'm supposed to "trust" a society that embraced eugenics overnight and openly doesn't consider a person's death meaningful unless they had no Underlying Health Conditions. Fuck that.

Who doesn't have underlying health conditions?
-
And how many of the people who don't have them actually do but just haven't had them diagnosed yet because they can't afford to go to the doctor?

Yes, this person is dead, that is a loss and it should be respected as such, and frankly, if it weren’t for peoples carelessness they wouldn’t be.

It’s heartless. Let’s say wearing glasses is the underlying health condition and see what happens
-
I use reading glasses as an example when I'm trying to get ableds to stop thinking about accessibility devices as a rare and exotic thing, too mysterious to accommodate.

Most flu deaths--you know, the ones we're supposed to compare to covid deaths--are also the result of underlying health conditions.

It's like people claiming that "pre-existing conditions" should disqualify you from getting health insurance. "Pre-existing conditions" is what doctors call "your medical history."
-
Yup! And thanks to Covid, some of us now have new “pre-existing conditions” that we didn’t have when 2020 started. In May alone I’m having an echocardiogram, Pulmonary Function Test, ultrasound, CT scan, &, even though I’m vaccinated but because it’s required, another Covid test.
