Nobody: Cis person: I have bravely, brazenly, brassily chosen NOT to be trans. Trans people: Good for you??pic.twitter.com/NjcpjYtqxb

As a result of this experience, I had the opportunity to explore gender in a variety of ways. My fashion has varied from glamorous femme to androgynous to dapper. I have also dated both boys and girls and have worn everything from prom dresses to baggy men’s jeans. However, rather than embracing popular terms like “gender non-conforming” or “fluid,” I have continued to define myself as a woman because I do not believe that any of these behaviors are incongruous with what it means to be a woman. Gender roles and norms are social constructs, part of the fabric of cultural obsessions bisexual playwright William Shakespeare amusingly called “Much Ado About Nothing.” So I have chosen to live by the advice of another great bi wordsmith, Oscar Wilde, who put it more succinctly: “Be yourself; everyone else is already taken.”
Today, I run the Southern Oregon chapter of amBi.org, the world’s largest bi social club.

This is such a widespread genre of cis women posts, the whole "I did [behavior] as a child and COULD'VE labeled myself as trans, but I have BRAVELY decided to be cis". Ok? Good for you? Thanks for letting us know?

Bending over backwards to be fair, I will note that the author then encountered biphobia + some weird gender policing from someone who apparently insisted that everyone needs to identity as politically trans for...solidarity?? but that's such a niche argument I've never seen it.

So just to be clear: I do not think cis people need to identity as trans out of political solidarity. I have never encountered that idea and feel confident saying that many trans people would be pretty horrified by the thought. We understand that your gender is your gender.

In return and for the love of god, please stop writing these lavish childhood fanfics about how you narrowly avoiding identifying as trans, as though that would be the worst thing ever and something modern kids need to be protected from.

And your decision to not label yourself as trans now does not make you brave or traditional or edgy or clever or ANYTHING except, you know, not trans. Which is fine.

Elevating this because I'm a little 😖 about assigning hyperspecific modern sexualities to historical folks.https://twitter.com/CPHotmess/status/1326548914883846146 …

I’d argue this is a good example of why we can’t impose contemporary terms on someone who lived 400 years ago, because we have no way of knowing what his relationship with his wife was actually like, what he would have done absent societal prohibitions on sodomy, etc.
