    23 years ago, from a refugee camp in Kenya, my father and I arrived at an airport in Washington DC. Today, we return to that same airport on the eve of my swearing in as the first Somali-American in Congress. 🙏🏾

    Enough is enough.There will come the day in which science will no longer work as a monarchy, where the once kings will fall when they have to fall and eventually be forgotten.Not the discovery, but the person.Having gained a Nobel prize is not some sort of life long deity title.

    When being a young woman promoting a collaborative lab environment gets your funding denied,we know something has to be done, and quickly.The funding agencies are doing this openly, suggesting 1 It is a common practice 2 Nothing will happen to them 3 They will continue doing so.

    Staffers at a detention center in Youngtown, Arizona were captured on video dragging & slapping migrant children. The facility, which has been shutdown, is operated by Southwest Key (a nonprofit). This video was just released. These children need our help.

    I went in for surgery this morning wearing one of my Jay and Silent Bob t shirts. The pre-op nurse saw it and commented on it saying "cool shirt. I'm a big fan, are you?" I said " I guess you could say that, but he's always been just my brother."
