What everyone in Venezuela is talking about: The government delivered a half Petro to 3.5 million public workers & 4.5 million pensioners for a trial run. It's being seen as a success. Select stores are accepting the form of payment, and people are lining up at those stores. https://twitter.com/NestorLReverol/status/1212720308874035200 …

The half Petro is valued at about $35, the cost of half a barrel of oil. It's a significant subsidy considering the wages here. Among the stores accepting the payment are some Faramatodos locations and Bodegas like this which accept cryptocurrency.https://twitter.com/camilapress/status/1208827492036952070 …

That vid at Bodega 58 in Altamira was taken just before the 1/2 Petro was distributed. Now places accepting the payment are packed with lines out the door. Farmatodos is basically Venezuelan Walgreens; the popular Traki department store is accepting the form of payment + others.

Opposition-run businesses don't want to make the payment system available, or cooperate with the government on this, but there's a lot of pressure to do so and this is just the PSUV government's first trial run. There are so many implications if this turns out successful.

The right-wing has trolled the experiment on social media, and if there is any mainstream coverage, expect it to be highly critical of any shortcomings such as exaggerating issues with BioPago. No figures available yet but the fact is, people are running out to line up to use it.

Pregunta, porqué es mejor estrategia que Bolívares, cual es la diferencia?
