Standing in solidarity to say - and pointing you to many links to support Black activists, artists, and musicians. Plus a killer playlist, of course! Black Voices Matter

8/28 Certainly delivers on the promise of shoegaze to assemble marvelous walls of guitar and weld them to airy melodies. Maybe slightly less personality and songcraft than Ride at their best, but a good listen! Ferment by Catherine Wheel

Jimmy Page & Robert Plant - Walking Into Clarksdale (Atlantic, 1998) Makes a more than solid argument for THAT guitar and THAT voice in the 90’s. Great support by Charlie Jones (bass) and Michael Lee (drums), who also co-wrote, and Steve Albini, who engineered.

Grant Lee Buffalo - Might Joe Moon (1994). Big, bold, passionate, and immaculately produced by Paul Kimble, this still sounds fantastic. First heard them at a showcase concert with St. Etienne and Soul Coughing!

Don’t blame me, blame for tasking us with , FORCING me to create this 15 hour+ playlist to at least take a stab at getting an overview of the decade. There’s a few important albums missing, though - see following tweets.

7/28 Hate to be the naysayer, but if out-of-tune klezmer plus first-form spoken word is what’s in, then I’m OUT. Give it a shot, though, you might feel differently. I didn’t like Black Midi, either.

6/28 Whoever recommended this on the thread was RIGHT - this is a terrific album, with effortless singing, sparkling and soulful arrangements, and songs that never let up. A classic!

5/28 Adam Holmes - Music For A Small Shelter: Gorgeous sounds for hammered dulcimer (sigh) or percussion, plus strings. Reflective, but with a nice edge due to harmonics and other noises. Out now on

4/28 I knew You’re Gonna Miss Me from Nuggets, but never followed through. Love the primitive throb underlying everything - and when it connects with a great song like Levitation (or Dylan) - WHOA.

That's not a name I've seen much recently! Leave it Eclectico to bring it back to top of mind. As fun a listen now as it was back then. Aterciopelados by

While the REALLY new thing would come on the next album, there's still plenty here that's funky and fun, with that bittersweet quality that's uniquely SLY. A Whole New Thing by Sly & The Family Stone

To be brutally honest, I gave up on Efterklang after the *brilliant* Parades (2007) & subsequent live album - but Better Way by their singer Casper Clausen is a sleek yet heartfelt gem of a record! Check out 8 Bit Human:

3/28 I like Gord best in the 70's, when he got a little slicker and little sadder. But this is fine stuff, with a couple of classic tunes and great work from Charlie McCoy & Kenny Buttrey. The Way I Feel by Gordon Lightfoot
