No, it’s awful. Don’t make it a joke.
-
Not a joke. Not even mere sarcasm. It's a visual display that clearly refutes the racist & derogatory term. Provides evidence to the contrary.
-
Geez. It’s like listening to people tell Jonathan Swift that eating children is wrong.

Actually, this seems pretty awful. This reappropriation or joke - if that’s what it is, and not purposeful bigotry - comes the expense of the authors. Instead of selling books by repeating the racist phrases that push people down, show support by building them up.
-
Honestly, I saw it as a counterpoint argument. Illustrating the inaccuracy & absolute absurdity of referring to those countries in such a derogatory way. There are many ways to challenge bigotry, ignorance & misinformation beyond lecturing. Pretty effective IMHO.
-
It just doesn’t seem like a counterpoint to me when it’s using the same derogatory words as the bigoted point of view.

You gotta love people who read and keep well informed - like bookstore owners and operators. This is yet another version of freedom of speech.

Don't know why it's so hard for you liberals to understand he was talking about the countries these people come from and not the individuals. Why are people not interested in finding out why the countries are shitholes where their citizenry want to flee?

Or it's actually just gross and kinda racist??
-
No, it's concrete proof that the offensive remark is not just racist, but factually inaccurate as well.

I've heard from some minority writers who really, really disagree. Just an FYI. One commented that if she saw her book on that table it would be like a slap in the face. White people can't reclaim a derogatory term on behalf of POC. It doesn't work
-
That makes sense. I took at as saying these countries are valuable. But rethinking, I can see that a country and its people shouldn't have to defend itself or prove itself to be 'good enough.' Thanks for pointing that out.
-
I did the same thing at first. But then I saw some friends comments...well, I was wrong.

No it’s not. Some of you laugh or see it as funny or cute or something. But it reinforces the idea in the minds of people.
-
No. It challenges that idea by providing evidence to the contrary.
