Riiggghht.... the fact that women and their CHILDREN were given preference in the panicked doling out of lifesaving measures in the midst of a tragic accident like the Titanic is such a compelling counterpoint to the blatantly misogynistic tenor of today’s social times! 🙄

One does not invalidate the other. It's a double standard.

It's not a troll, it's a truth. Equality means all lives should be treated equal.

This is a pretty bleak fact to point out, but only one of them can bear children. Unfortunately the survival of the species means saving the lives of those who can continue it.

Our species' survival was not in danger, it was a boat full of people.

If you haven't read already, more men were saved on the titanic than women and this has been found in most disasters at sea.

Proportion of opportunity =/= proportion of outcome. Men were told they had to stay back and die instead of women because their lives weren't valued as much. It happened, and it is inequality.

Their lives weren’t as valuable because of the aforementioned ability to bear children. That same “female privilege” is the reason abortion/women’s reproductive rights are legislated out the ass. For every man who died in a tragedy, there are as many women who died from pregancy.

The would be not equally. And that is why it's not equality.

Equality cannot be applied equally to gender when it comes to the law. For example, there are laws that should protect reproductive rights solely of women and things like male circumcision that applies to men.

Furthermore, at this time women didn’t have the right to: - vote - work in “professional” jobs - inherit property - receive unemployed benefit if married - divorce under equal grounds - equal pay So if you want to underscore some historical inequality 👆🏻

This was never a contest. And I very strongly disagree with how women were treated, because it was inequality. And so is saying that men's lives aren't worth being saved in disaster. You can't have it both ways. Equality should mean equality.

There is access to right to life and there is access to quality of life. Sealioning about how more men died in sea disasters (to which other people have responded with data showing the Titanic was an exception) disingenuously adds more weight to the “inequality” men faced.

I mean, if you want to examine the inequality of the Titanic disaster, your focus is best trained on class rather than gender 🤷‍♀️

Absolutely true. But I was calling out the ignorance that was being said, not presenting a whole case. In the face of disaster, you can count on the rich always being the safest. War is fought with the poor, after all.

This has nothing to do with valuing of lives that should be saved. Men should also be saved. What about trans-women? They cannot bear children, does that mean they should be treated like the men? Even thought they're women? I disagree, and think that all lives are worth saving.

No, that would be two tweets above where you stated that not being able to bear children is the reason why their lives aren't worth saving by comparison. And I did not say that you don't support equality of life.
