Poorly written criticism; "dearth" applies to a general deficiency, not an individual's. Went for the $5 word when the twenty-cent "lack" would have done better.

I believe there most certainly IS bad writing, and I have books by Nancy Pelosi, George W. Bush, Ayn Rand and John Kerry in my home library to prove the point!
