If we need to make these parallels, present day America is more like 1917 Russia than Weimar Germany.

I'd say more like post WWII China, with the red guards, little red book, and sidewalk struggle sessions and public shaming (in this case, CRT, White Fragility, cancel culture). This is a cultural revolution, not an economic, class or political one. It's mora hysteria.
