Even progressives come 'round when culture gets too absurd. Learned Hand on whether the fedl govt could regulate the Schechters. "The line is no doubt in the end arbitrary," Hand write, "but we have got to draw it, because without it Congress can take over all the government."

Seven years separates Schechter from Wickard v. Filburn. If the Wickard court had been on the scene for Schechter, we would have had a planned economy throughout the 20th century.
