Really don't like the word "elite." What is elite?

As in "elitists?" I'll take a shot at it. Those in positions of power who want to tell their "lessers" how they should think, feel, and act while ignoring civil rights and/or morality. (I'm completely open to your critique, ma'am.)
Like FV Hayek, a member (at least originally) of the Austrian elite? It's a boomerang weapon.

I believe so, yes. Systems that promise to bring about class equality end up requiring special folk to oversee the "equality." Did Hayek also speak on cultural "elites?"

I think she’s saying we use it as a pejorative against media and govt types but there are elites in libertarian thought, e.g. Rothbard or Mises, so if we make it a pejorative term it kind of backfires if we want to use it in a positive, meritocratic way.
