When charity, any charity, is accepted with gratitude... there is never any shame.
Great Society/Nixon lesson (see book). Food stamps are not bad. There's no shame in food stamps, or coming to want. But it is A shame when you expect that not only yourself but your children and grandchildren will be on foodstamps.

Important lesson from the book. I always wondered where the fault lies. The recipient or government. After reading I’m of the mind it’s 90% government and 10% recipient.

I disagree. I agree with Robert Lupton in his book "Toxic Charity." Food stamps (or other forms of one-way giving) can be dehumanizing to the recipient and undercut the self-confidence and respect necessary for personal achievement.
