I'm more worried about peoples meds and such. Can't pick up a prescription when you burn down the pharmacy. They should of cracked down on these riots immediately. People are too PC and afraid of being called racists.
One of the great tragedies of the 1960s riots was the subsequent withdrawal of retail shops, already somewhat scarce, from inner cities. Their departure left the inhabitants with nowhere to shop. For poorer citizens, riots worsened what urban renewal had begun.

Baltimore literally bribed CVS to rebuild thier locations in 2015. I expect we’ll see more of the same.

This is a great point. Anyone else been to Watts in LA? It was a wasteland for years after the riots, hope they have recovered but in the 80’s it was still not good.

Those changes were taking place before the riots. As seen, for example, in Caro’s “The Powerbroker.” They might have accelerated the move, but I don’t think the causality is that direct.

You both make valid points. In 1960 100% of my family lived in Newark. By 1967 some had moved out, but many still worked there. By 1970 all had moved out and most moved businesses/jobs. Wide range of professions-machinists, dressmakers, bankers.
