I'd be interested in reading some old National Review issues from that time. As I recall Reagan made a record warning against Socialized Medicine then.
For clarity: Great Society does not claim that America went socialist. Book describes the reality, which is that in the 1960s we moved toward social democracy, and that gave us the sad 1970s. The book is a kind of domestic "Best and the Brightest."

Correct. It is now that the Democrats are trying to move us toward socialism. Social democracy was merely a stepping stone. But we may just go straight to communist dictatorship and skip the next step.
