Reminds me of reading Theodore White's "The Making of the American President" series from 1960 to 1972. So many insights still surprisingly relevant to today.

At core, Liberals are lured by the idea that certain perennial aspects of the human condition can be FIXED and that government can dictate that fix. Conservatives understand that each of us is a free spirit and at at best government can create equitable ways to DEAL issues.

This puts both sides in their best light. Underneath this is the reality that vested interests in our politics, our administrative state and our media have evolved to a point where they have no shame in lying, dissembling or using raw power in pursuit of their interests.

Great post. One of the reasons Classical Liberals have lost their way is that they have forgotten the insights of the Founders- that government works best at the most local level; that humans cannot be “improved” by law; and that government “solutions” often make things worse.
