Daniel Patrick Moynihan. He was fatally honest. Several bads: midwifed public-sector unionism into life, pushed to expand welfare. Wrote a WH policy on architecture that permitted Brutalism in Wash. But M achieved greats (another tweet) that more than offset bads. HONEST. ALWAYS.

Still, the idea has had support from the likes of
#FriedrichHayek and#MiltonFriedman. More recently@charlesmurray has advocated a variation on the theme. The problems seem to be more in the execution than the principle. -
