Consumer companies often have *no idea* what valuations they should target in private fundraises. The chart below from UBS should be helpful. Public companies trade at 1.5x - 10x rev depending on sector/margin, and MOST are profitable and valued off of EBITDA

The social startup category is coming out of its multi-year state of despondence. TikTok's rise and Facebook's challenges are a big part of this. Triller, Dubsmash, Byte, Pop are all starting to gain some attention. Excited.

Super thoughtful analysis of Amazon Prime's membership model. Is the ROI for customers *really* there?

Problem in VC: widespread consensus on what a “good” co looks like 5-8 yrs ago, investments like Snapchat, Github, etc were polarizing. Some loved it, others hated it Way fewer polarizing co’s now. companies fall into the haves and have nots. They have 12 VCs chasing them or 0

These memories, and hundreds of others, keep flashing through my brain. I'm not sure I can name another figure of whom I have so many amazing memories from so many different facets of my life. I feel hollow to know that Kobe is gone. He deeply touched my life. 12/12

He shared a vision for wanting to teach the world how he thought about basketball. his new purpose was to inspire a new generation of athletes to be their best selves. In short order he realized this vision with his ESPN series Detail 11/12

He was EXACTLY the person I expected him to be. Intense. Passionate and ambitious. In a 5 person meeting he fired away question after question. I've never seen a person more determined to be successful. 10/12

7 years later, Kobe had begun his 2nd career in business. I had the pleasure of meeting Kobe in close settings on a few occasions, through my work with The Players' Tribune & NEA. 9/12

In the summer of 2008, I was doing an internship in NYC and remember feeling pretty lonely. I didn't have a TV in my summer dorm room, so I remember watching in the lobby of my apartment building with our doorman. Kobe fell short that year, smothered by the Celtics defense 8/12

As a middle school student, *all we talked about* was basketball. These shoes. These cards. our fantasy league. The lakers in the playoffs. It was such a big part of our identity, and we talked about kobe more than anyone else 7/12

By 8th grade, I had fully shifted from collecting cards to collecting sneakers. Kobe's debut shoe from Adidas was HOT. So sleek. Durable, well cushioned. The shoe is underrated today, but IMO one of the best kicks of all time 6/12

as a child, it was hard not to see Kobe as the coolest person ever. Now I look back and see a teenager, trying to find his identity and trying to have fun with the world watching him as a teenager. along the way this playfulness was squeezed out of him, and we got the mamba 5/12

He was larger than life off the court too. Few remember the rap song he co-sang with TYRA BANKS! early in his career. Here's a super grainy video of them performing together 3/12
