My only complaint is that they're going with the fanon established by BBC Sherlock of Mycroft being the stuffy, conservative Establishment eldest brother instead of the hilariously useless failson from canon I love so wellhttps://twitter.com/netflix/status/1298236181067571202 …

Canon Mycroft wouldn't help Sherlock go hunting for their wild, unladylike younger sister Canon Mycroft doesn't leave the house

In the books she communicates with her mother through coded personal ads, Mycroft's one big proactive attempt to find her is when he cracks the code and puts out an ad in it to lure her to him

The movie looks like a romp; the books were a really fun dive into what sorts of blind spots the Brothers Holmes might have. Enola weaponizes all that "female nonsense" that her brothers dismiss as frivolous--flower language, fan language, even corsetshttps://twitter.com/AmeliaRoseWrite/status/1298354927161372673?s=20 …

But the cool thing about the books was how Nancy Springer brought to light a lot of things from that era that upper-middle-class British gentlemen such as Conan Doyle, Holmes, and Watson would dismiss, which Enola wielded effectively against them

Her stories are very much her own, too--she crosses paths with Sherlock, yes, but the mysteries she solves aren't always connected to him. It strikes a good balance. Basically, I highly recommend the books; will have to see about the movie

I should add that another interesting thing about the books is how they take on the social restlessness of the day. The people who DIDN'T benefit from the Victorian status quo often are the focus of the mysteries
