A: Leaders of our two countries frequently exchanges views over phone and reached consensus on strengthening cooperation on #COVID19, demonstrating the firm confidence in China&UK working together to fight the epidemic and promote a comprehensive strategic partnership.
A: Second, sharing experience. The joint working team from Shandong Province held online meeting with UK experts. Jonathan Van-Tam, Deputy Chief Medical Officer spoke highly of the meeting and appreciate China’s experience on epidemic prevention＆control＆ medical treatment.
A: Third, deepening research cooperation. We have collaboration on vaccine&drugs, &collaboration between scientific institutions&colleges. The businesses from our two countries have played an important part in the collaboration, such as vaccine&drugs.
A:fourth,supporting each other in time of need. When China was fighting the virus, UK donated 2 shipments of medical supplies.China stands ready to extend a helping hand to UK. The joint team brought supplies including ventilators&engage in discussion with UK experts on #COVID19.
A: Fifth, collaborating in the global arena. During the telephone conversation, our two leaders expressed willingness to strengthen collaboration in UN&G20. At this critical moment, we should work together to build a community with a shared future for mankind.
Q: What has Embassy done to protect interests＆rights of Chinese citizens? A: President Xi has repeatedly emphasized that Chinese government attaches great importance to health＆safety of overseas Chinese citizens, and instruct the Embassy to provide guidance＆support for them.
A: President Xi emphasized in conversation with PM Johnson that China hopes UK will provide protection for Chinese citizens, especially students, to ensure their safety＆health. The Embassy will do its best to provide protection for Chinese citizens in UK.
A: We are stepping up efforts to provide consular protection. So far we have issued more than 20 consular notices, asked the British side to promptly deal with Chinese citizens’ request, including providing them with medical diagnose and treatment.
A: The UK side has agreed to make relevant arrangements with regard to the extension of Chinese citizens’ visas during the epidemic. We are dealing with all kinds of requests from Chinese citizens, receiving more than 600 cases per day during peak period.
A: The Embassy pays high attention to the need of overseas Chinese students. There are about 660 thousand ethnic Chinese in the UK. 410 thousand are Chinese citizens, including 220 thousand Chinese students. The students are the most vulnerable group.
A: We are maintaining close communication with British education department, universities and colleges. I wrote to British Secretary of Education and Vice-chancellors of 154 universities that receive Chinese students, urging them to take good care of the students.
A: We provide guidance to Chinese students on how to protect themselves from the disease. Besides consular notices, we have issued around 10 notices to address the needs of Chinese students and kept in touch with them.
A: We provide Chinese students with“Health Packages”containing masks, medicines and health manuals on staying safe form #COVID19 and give them advice on how to make up their minds on staying put or going home.
A: Generally speaking, we hope they would adhere to the WHO guidance by avoiding long journeys to prevent cross infection. If they decide to go home, they must adhere to the rules of quarantine upon arrival. What is most important is that they have to plan their studies properly.
A: We fully support the work of Chinese students’ association, @CSSAUK. They have helped the students organize and support one another by hosting lectures on personal protection against virus, recruiting volunteers and establishing service and WeChat groups.
A: The more prominent issue is the safety of teenage Chinese pupils here in UK. There are about 15,000 of them. We are working hard to help them find hosting agencies. We are also working communicating with relevant authorities in China to help address the difficulties they face.
A: We offer assistance to Chinese Companies in formulating work plans, implementing disease prevention measures, establish early reporting system and meet their needs in a timely manner. We also provided personal protection supplies to them.
The #COVID19 has caused great economic losses to airliners. I communicated the difficulties of these companies to the UK Secretary of State for Transport & Heathrow Airport executives, and received a positive response saying that they will give Chinese companies support.
Q: Some UK media reports that “China’s misinformation”has led to “lack of testing” in UK and that British government officials “are furious over China’s campaign of misinformation” and “demand an urgent review” of Britain’s relationship with China. What’s your comment?
A: We are shocked＆deeply concerned. Since outbreak of #COVID19, UK media report has been objective on the whole, recognizing China’s sacrifice＆contribution which have bought time for other countries in the fight against the epidemic.
A: Some media completely disregard tremendous efforts ＆huge sacrifice of China＆its people,＆deny China’s significant contribution to global public health＆safety. The Embassy clarified its position ASAP. I personally expressed grave concern to UK side＆asked for clarification.
A: Senior officials of the British government have replied that the reported remarks do not represent government position and that the British side speaks highly of China’s contribution to the global response to #COVID19＆regards China-UK relationship as fundamentally important.
A: I would like to emphasize this: Virus respects no borders, nor does it distinguish between races. It is a common enemy of mankind & could be defeated only through concerted efforts of the international community.
A: Prejudice, vilification & discrediting would undermine global response in fighting #COVID19. Such action, going against the trend of win-win cooperation of, is bound to live in infamy.
A: We have written letters to these media and urge them to abandon their arrogance and prejudice, take an objective view of China's efforts and achievements in combating #COVID19, and contribute positive energy to global public health and safety, instead of doing the opposite.pic.twitter.com/vKdRt6KH0X
