The South China Sea issues are directly related to peace & stability and a concern for all. Japan strongly opposes any action that heightens tensions. We support the enforcement of #RuleOfLaw in the sea & work with the int'l community to protect the free, open, and peaceful seas.

In 1952, Japan renounced sovereignty of Spratly Islands in favour of China(ROC). . It’s complicated, but how does Japan now see that recognition?

Beg to differ. Renunciation, yes. In favour of ROC, definitely no. There was no clear recipient in the 1952 ROC-Japan treaty which simply restated *verbatim* the terms of the 1951 SF treaty. BTW, Andrei Gromyko tried unsuccessfully in 1951 in favour of PRC.
