I think you are intentionally misinterpreting what he was saying. He is talking about a 2-3% increase in the overall death rate of the virus -- ie: it could jump from 3% to 3.06% or .4% to .4012%.

Ellis. Listen to what he says. He does not say what you say he was saying. What you are saying he was saying is what the article he refers to was saying but is not what he said. What he said is what people are referring to? You OK with an extra few 1000 dead? Even a loved one?
