If you get grief for being childless, it helps to calmly state that you just didn’t want to contribute to the overpopulation destroying the planet.

Why do people even care? So much busy-bodying.
-
People want other people to make the same choices they did, so they feel validated in their choices. It’s a very human urge, but it’s also not rational and needs unlearning.
-
True. I've heard people who aren't parents called "Selfish". How selfish is it to have kids without really thinking about it? I've seen too many people who don't enjoy parenting but it was "the next step".

As a non-parent, I figure that if I’m selfish because I didn’t have kids, then it’s good I didn’t have them. Selfish people would make bad parents.

I usually ask them why they did. The answers are usually vague so I just keeping asking and challenging their norms. That works too.

Seems strange to me this would still be the case given how rapidly it’s changing. I can at least understand the “less psychologically fulfilled” thought but the “moral outage” part is so bizarre to me.

I’ve got the shaming down, it’s the politeness I need to work on.

Misery loves company??? I shut down people by looking sad and saying that doctors told us we could never have children. Never asked again!
