But what this fails to take into consideration is 90% of readers get no further than the headline and the first paragraph. Now, if you’re a writer, that’s infuriating. You don’t want to reward people for being lazy and stupid.

God, yes. I hear this precise dynamic a dozen times a week on NPR. You can tell the reporter thinks the lie is self-evident so it doesn’t “need” to be said. (Sometimes the most you’ll get is a little knowing chuckle with the host)

I clearly recall from 2016 some sort of roundtable discussion on NPR where they were wringing their hands aloud over how they couldn't come out and say "lie" or "lying" because they didn't want to "look biased." Well, here we are.
