And 2) Tupac, and I had to do it while visiting my sister in Atlanta because my mom liked to confiscate albums that had parental advisory stickers on them.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q69AdkehAk8 …

Like, I got this album from Columbia House and it had a parental advisory sticker on it, which promptly got it confiscated, and it's mostly a mish mash of nursery rhymes, tl;dr racism.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3La9ZlsDGos …

Enter the Wu came out in 1993 - I was still practically fetal. But the older kids I adored listened to it and eventually so did I. It entertained regular play in my life for probably ten years - and still does. You notice this album still sounds fresh?

Hip Hop Revolution on Netflix has a good episode this season that puts Wu-Tang in context and explains the technology they used to produce the gritty, grimy sound that became part of the NY sound.

In the mid-90s in Central Indiana, Wu-Tang was synonymous with the cool kids. Skateboarding was peaking in popularity and white kid skaters borrowed heavily from hip hop. Wu was everywhere, The Roots, Bjork, PJ Harvey, Type O Negative and Tribe would be heard on the same mix.

But my curfew was 10 PM, which meant we had to leave by 8:30 to get home from this 6 PM concert.

The concert was Atari Teenage Riot (lol), Wu-Tang, and Rage Against the Machine, together. Deer Creek, Indianapolis, 1997. I had to leave early because of my dumb curfew.

Ha! I had a ticket to that tour (though I was in college). But the Wu-Tang withdrew from the bill, so I sold it because Rage is not a band I care about.
