Au pair programs aren't just about child care but also cultural exchange. Au pairs are intended to have time to explore USA when they aren't working. I’m not going to fault a paper for covering things its readers care about. And the erosion of our reputation abroad is very real and bigger than UWS au pairs.

You’re searching for a problem here. Bigger issues to get upset about. Why should the NYT *not* write a story about au pairs? Their schools and child care coverage has been excellent. This is one story.
