I worked in Rhode Island & was a notary public. I got a certificate from the state that looked like a diploma but was 2’ wide x 10” tall because the full name of the state in script was so wide. I never thought “Plantations” = slavery because it was a New England state.

Interesting, I hadn’t thought of how it would be presented on official forms etc. Also, a good reminder that a lot of us, myself included, tend to forget the slave-holding past of New England.
